Guidelines notes to fill the application:

1-      Please use Microsoft Word program to fill the application. hand writing filled applications will not be considered.

2-      Please read carefully the one-pager information before working on your application.

3-      Applications must be sent to BritishCouncil.iraq@fco.gov.uk , please ensure that the message size does not exceed 1 mega byte.

4-      Deadline of receiving the applications 7 October 2007.

5-      Strong applications will be contacted to take part in an interview, we regret that we cannot contact or give feedback on unsuccessful applications.

6-      Documents needed to be attached with the application form:

·         Iraqi Identification cards (Jinssya and Shahadat al Jinssya).

·         Last year scores card (For high school applicants).

·         High School graduation degrees (For those in college).

Our Future, our Activism. Our Challenge

Concept note

 

Young people, 16-19 years old, from 50 countries will gather in Greenwich, UK, in January 2008 to set down a challenge to the world’s leaders. They will come from varying backgrounds as well as countries but will have one common experience: they are all activists for change.

 

Each one of them has decided that they cannot wait for the world’s leaders to solve the world’s problems. They are taking command of the future. They are not passive recipients of education; they are not passive consumers; they are not passively unemployed.

 

They are young entrepreneurs; young social activists, young political activists. They have taken responsibility for their future. This is how the younger generation assumes responsibility. They have the vitality, the innovation and the drive to make things happen. They are at the edge.

 

This is where they say what they are doing. Not to showcase; not to seek praise; not to be used. But to challenge.

 

They do not want the world’s leaders in politics, in business, in civil society to listen. And listen. And listen. They do not want the world’s leaders to devise programmes, projects and agree conventions for things to happen to the younger generation. Sometime in the future. They want the world’s leaders to support the younger generation in the design, in the implementation and in the success.

 

At Greenwich the 60 participants will share their enthusiasm and experiences. They will lay down challenges for the worlds’ leaders and take those challenges to Davos. The challenges will not be to institutions or anonymous organisations. The challenges are personal: what will you do to support the young activists in your country? The challenges go beyond Davos.  That is the first step.

 

At the WEF regional forums the challenges are repeated and action plans sought. The world’s leaders become accountable to the younger generation.

 

This is a time for committed action. This is a time for naming and being counted.

 

The younger generation is impatient. The impact of climate change, the impact of intercultural conflict and radicalisation, the impact of disease, the impact of poverty are global issues; so is the younger generation.

 

The 2008 Greenwich challenges to the world leaders.
